First Appointment

Being referred for an assessment appointment

Pain clinics from all health boards in Scotland can refer someone to the programme.

Before the appointment

Assessment appointments are carried out virtually using NHS Scotland Near Me (Attend Anywhere). In-person assessment appointments can be accommodated. Online questionnaires are sent out with appointment letters. Completing the questionnaires before the appointment helps the team to have a full understanding of the impact of pain on your life and this helps form the basis of the conversation at the assessment.

Further information about what to expect on the programme can be found in the Information about Your Assessment Leaflet

During the appointment

During your assessment appointment, you will see two members of the team which could include a physiotherapist, psychologist, occupational therapist, doctor or nurse.

The assessment appointment can

  • Help you decide if the programme is right for you
  • Help us decide if the programme would be helpful to you and explain to you why we think it may or may not be
  • Offer you a chance to meet members of the team

Together as a team and in discussion with you, we will consider whether the programme is the best option for you.
