Introducing Tai Chi at Allander House
This year, the physiotherapy and occupational therapy team underwent training in adapted Tai Chi for Health and Rehabilitation. There is growing evidence for the use of Tai Chi in Health. Regular practice can improve balance and coordination, increase mobility and flexibility, strengthen muscles, improve sleep and reduce anxiety and depression. This makes Tai Chi a good way to introduce movement in people with Chronic Pain where it’s often challenging to find a way to introduce movement. All exercises are designed to be done at a level where people feel is comfortable and can be done in standing or sitting.
A fun day was had by all with plenty of opportunity for the team to practice the Tai Chi exercise! We are looking forward to using this on the programme in the coming months.
